Saturday's meeting

Our speaker on Saturday is Janet Barker. Her talk is called 'Don't be Afraid to Experiment!' You can see examples of Janet's work on Facebook-jaybee creative. Janet lives locally and, at present, the forecast suggests that the snow will be past by Saturday afternoon so the meeting is ON.

The colour for this months raffle is Spring Green. Hopefully we can remember what Spring Green will be looking like lurking below the snow.

Diane says don't forget that Saturday is the final day for submitting work for our Exhibition. Exciting! Committee members will be helping hang the work on Tuesday ready for the opening on March 10th.

7th FEBRUARY BRANCH BANNER

Our original branch banner has a new home.  It is now hanging in a very nice spot in St. Nicholas' Church Hall.
We have been trying to find a good home for it for ages so it's very satisfying that we have found somewhere where it will be admired by lots of people and displayed  appropriately.

SATURDAY 3RD FEBRUARY 2018

We had a very interesting branch meeting on Saturday.  A meeting where we had begun to wonder if we would end up with a speaker.  Our first speaker from John James Needles was unable to come to the branch due to illness.
Our programme secretary decided to try and have some of the Guild Folios delivered to us, while at the same time another member told us Cheryl Penna from Durham branch would give us a talk on the Durham Broderers.
All well and good.  Breathe a sigh of relief but unfortunately Cheryl also became ill and could not attend.  Again fortunately Melitta Butterill, also from Durham branch, stepped in and said she would do the talk instead.  So our meeting went ahead.

Melitta gave us a really informative and delightful talk on the Broderers and the absolutely beautiful work they had done over the years for the Cathedral.

Some of the samples were so intricate, detailed, so cleverly designed and so equisitely worked.

It was a real privilege to listen to Melitta and I think we all gained a valuable insight in to the work of Durham Broderers.
