February 3rd Meeting

There has a change to our programme. The new speaker for this meeting is Cheryl Penna. The talk is about the work of Durham Cathedral Broderers. The broderers maintain present textiles in the cathedral and stitch new ones. Cheryl is also a member of the Embroiderers Guild. Should be an interesting talk.

Our raffle colour for February is white/silver. Any offerings will be appreciated.

Visitors welcome.

See you on the 3rd.

Hanging by Ann West

I have just listened and watched BBC Radio 4 - Moving Pictures, Series 2, Hanging by Ann West. It was amazing. The technology was fiddlely for me but worth the effort. I heard it start on the radio and managed to log on to the BBC website to view the hanging at the same time, zooming in and out as the presenters talked. So interesting listening to experts talking about a piece of artwork and wonderful that an applique hanging has been chosen.

Jessica Grady

Last Saturday we had an excellent talk by Jessica Grady. She told us the story of her textile artist life so far. Her work is very colourful and she uses unusual materials like rubber bands, cotton wool buds, washers and hair curlers which she dies and paints and uses instead of beads and sequins. It's not many young women who would confess that their favourite shop is Wilko's pick and mix hardware department for washers and grouting spacers! It was lovely to have tables full of samples which we could handle. Here are some photographs of Jessica's work.
