SATURDAY 7TH SEPTEMBER WENDY ANN STANGER

All photos are shown with permission from Wendy.

We had a very pleasant and enjoyable meeting with Wendy on Saturday.  She was very generous with information about how she created her lovely pieces.

We had a demonstration from her on the way she created the papers that she used.  Wendy had also brought samples of the fibres that she used which were very interesting and varied.

This last piece was created using shirring elastic and then using a steam iron held over the fabric to shrink it.  This caused a lot of discussion with members very intrigued by the technique.   A lovely afternoon.

3RD AUGUST DAY OF STITCH

We had a very pleasant day at the forest walkway at Pinchinthorpe, Guisborough on Saturday.   A number of members took part and during the day we had a good selection of customers (all children this year).

There was a choice of cards and hearts to make and colouring for youngsters and all of them had something nicely made to take home with them.

We had a lot of interest in what we were doing, some of us took our own stitching.  All in all a nice day out.

DAYSCHOOL WITH HELEN WALSH SUNDAY 7TH JULY 2019

We had a really good day with Helen on Sunday.
For a change it was quite dull outside for a lot of the day instead of our usual brilliant sunshine on a dayschool.

Many thanks to Helen for an excellent weekend.

We all seemed to get along well once we had decided which pattern we were going to try.

These two kingfishers are the right side (under the sheer fabric to give the shadow effect)  and the wrong side (quite vibrant).  Anne A.

HELEN WALSH SATURDAY 6th JULY 2019

These photographs are shown with permission from Helen.

We had an extremely interesting talk from Helen on Saturday.  She took us through the beautiful samples of her work that she had brought with her.
The exquisite drawings of feathers in her sketch books were a delight to see and made us wish we could draw them as well as her.

The kantha style stitching in her work was lovely.

Her birds were another thing that has fascinated her for years.

These beautiful birds when held up to the light were gorgeous.  Lots of machine stitching and also some hand stitching.

All in all a really pleasant afternoon.

UPDATE ON THE PRIORY PROJECT

On Saturday 4th May we had a members afternoon to carry on working our pieces for the Priory Project and also the panel for Random Stitchers of Cleveland, our up to date branch name.

It was a very busy but enjoyable afternoon and there seemed to be plenty of stitching as well as lots of chatter.

We were joined by the ladies who volunteer for the Priory gardens. They had asked us if we would be interested in making a panel for them.  We had made a lot of progress and they were delighted with the beautiful pieces that had been completed so far.

MONDAY WORKSHOP 8TH APRIL

Our workshop on Monday is a small goldwork piece that will fit nicely on a small easel.
Lynda J. is leading the workshop.

Please bring your sewing kit, small piece of plain fabric about 6" x 7" tacked onto a supporting fabric and an embroidery hoop.

If you have any gold seed beads or bugles and gold threads please bring these as well and  also a beading needle.

SATURDAY 6TH APRIL 2019

Our speaker for Saturday was Priscilla Edwards and her topic Make Do And Mend.
Priscilla gave us a very interesting talk starting with what she had covered on her degree course and all the different items she had used to create her pieces including plastics, papers and all sorts of things from all over including charity shops and items gathered by friends.

Since then she still uses found objects and items donated from anywhere and everywhere.

Anyone who has Stitch magazine number 76 there is a step by step guide to making one of her pieces titled  " Just your cup of tea".   It's on my list of to do's.

THE GUISBOROUGH PRIORY PROJECT

We were asked by the Guisborough Priory Project team if we would make them a banner to celebrate the 900 years of Guisborough Priory.

Sue C.  came up with a design very quickly which was shown to our members at the next Monday workshop.  After giving the design a few tweaks it was presented to the Priory team who were delighted with it and asked us to make the banner.

The process of choosing and dyeing fabrics, making stencils for the medieval tiles and choosing which flowers to embroider is well under way and we hope to hand out the pieces to start stitching at the next branch meeting.

Photos taken in the Priory grounds when we showed the design to the Priory team.
