SUNDAY 4TH NOVEMBER 2018 PALACE ARTS GALLERY, REDCAR

I went to Helen Winthorpe-Kendricks exhibition at the Palace Art Gallery this afternoon.  There are some lovely, detailed and interesting pieces on display.
Some nice ideas for using old quilted pieces, cutting them up and stitching on them to create an entirely new piece.

SUNDAY 4TH NOVEMBER 2018 SUNFLOWERS

We are having a branch exhibition in the Python Gallery from 15th January to the end of March.  Part of the exhibition will be a collaboration of 24 members to reproduce in stitch this picture of Van Gogh's Sunflowers.

The large poster has been cut into 24 squares and we had a lucky dip to see which piece you got to stitch.
The idea is that you reproduce your piece to look like the painting but in any stitch technique you choose.  All the pieces will then be reassembled and put on show with the original picture alongside.
I think it will look amazing.

SATURDAY 3RD NOVEMBER 2018 THREAD ROCKS

Our speaker today was Helen Winthorpe-Kendrick.
Helen is a freelance textile artist who enjoys the challenge of incorporating a story into her pieces.

Helen gave us a really surprising talk on geology and how she interprets the different rocks into stitch.  It was an insight into how lava flows, plasma, tectonic plates and all rock formations could be interpreted into stitch.
