SUNDAY 4TH NOVEMBER 2018 PALACE ARTS GALLERY, REDCAR

I went to Helen Winthorpe-Kendricks exhibition at the Palace Art Gallery this afternoon.  There are some lovely, detailed and interesting pieces on display.
Some nice ideas for using old quilted pieces, cutting them up and stitching on them to create an entirely new piece.

SUNDAY 4TH NOVEMBER 2018 SUNFLOWERS

We are having a branch exhibition in the Python Gallery from 15th January to the end of March.  Part of the exhibition will be a collaboration of 24 members to reproduce in stitch this picture of Van Gogh's Sunflowers.

The large poster has been cut into 24 squares and we had a lucky dip to see which piece you got to stitch.
The idea is that you reproduce your piece to look like the painting but in any stitch technique you choose.  All the pieces will then be reassembled and put on show with the original picture alongside.
I think it will look amazing.

SATURDAY 3RD NOVEMBER 2018 THREAD ROCKS

Our speaker today was Helen Winthorpe-Kendrick.
Helen is a freelance textile artist who enjoys the challenge of incorporating a story into her pieces.

Helen gave us a really surprising talk on geology and how she interprets the different rocks into stitch.  It was an insight into how lava flows, plasma, tectonic plates and all rock formations could be interpreted into stitch.

HARVEST OF TALENTS 22ND SEPTEMBER 2018

We had a very pleasant day in All Saints Church, Skelton-in-Cleveland on Saturday.   There were lots of different stalls from the people of Skelton showing their varied talents.
There were paintings, books, jams and chutneys, weaving, embroidery and photography to name some of them.
During the day there were guitarists and singers performing at various time and also hand bell ringing.
Those people who came to see what Skelton had to offer were very impressed with what they saw and made some very favourable comments.

ISOBEL HALL DAYSCHOOL SUNDAY 9TH SEPTEMBER 2018

10 members of the branch had a very interesting dayschool with Issa on Sunday.   They used various products including silk coccon strippings and alcohol inks to produce the cover for a medieval style book.

1ST SEPTEMBER ISOBEL HALL MIXED MEDIA AND STITCH

We had a very enjoyable meeting with Isobel (Issa) Hall.  It was lovely to see her and her husband Eric again.
Isobel's topic was mixed media and stitch.  She covered so many products explaining the differences between types of glues and waxes in detail.
She then went on to describe how she had built up the covers of her books and made the casts for her vessels.   It was quite inspirational.
We all had a lovely afternoon.

SATURDAY 11 AUGUST 2018 DAY OF STITCH PART TWO

More photos of very colourful hearts and the children who made them.   Some of the children it was the first time they had done any stitching and they were delighted with the hearts they made.

The start of a lovely colourful heart stitched by Anne A. during the day.

Anne A.  Lovely colourful heart finished off.

SATURDAY 11 AUGUST 2018 DAY OF STITCH PART ONE

We all enjoyed a lovely day at Pinchinthorpe Forest and Walkway just outside Guisborough yesterday in the railway carriage.

The theme this year was hearts and there were lots of things to do for all ages.  Colouring for the little ones.  Felt heart shapes to decorate or stitch and glue on to cards, fabric hearts to stitch for older children or adults and we had lots of willing customers during the day as you can see from the photographs.

One youngster didn't want to make a heart, he wanted to make a worm which turned out big enough to be a snake.  He was very pleased with himself.
