Saturday 1st July ANNE MENARY FABRIC OF THE UNIVERSE
On Saturday our speaker was Anne Menary who showed us a very surprising amount of hand stitched work. One set of four with 13 pieces in each section were done one a week over one year. Some of them are shown below.
All of these pieces were stitched together with herringbone stitch. They were not padded but were quite supple so they would fold easily for storage.
These are just a selection of the work that Anne brought with her.
SATURDAY 3RD JUNE OUTING
On Saturday 3rd June we had a branch outing to Ripon Cathedral to begin the day. This was to view the Needle Points North panels which were on display for the first time in a number of years and also the exhibition "Perspectives".
The Needle Points North panel (photo below) was the one made by members of Guisborough Branch in 1996 for the Year of the Arts.

After viewing the exhibition we went on to have lunch at Thirsk Garden Centre. A beautiful sunny day and lots of members had lunch outside.
Our next stop was Mount Grace Priory to view the Lace exhibiton. The pieces were inspired by their settings in the Priory.
We then enjoyed a leisurely walk around the Priory with a very knowledgeable guide which was a lovely end to a very pleasant day out.

Saturday's meeting
Our speaker this Saturday, 1st July, is Anne Menary, a textile artist from Derbyshire. Her talk is "Fabric of the Universe". The Sunday Dayschool she is leading is full, which is very satisfactory. The raffle colour this month is blue, so any odds and ends would be appreciated.

SATURDAY 1ST APRIL ANGELA SANDWITH
We had a most unusual meeting with Angela Sandwith on Saturday. Lots of her work was using recycled or unusual fabrics. (Plastic carrier bags, crisp packets, garden fleece, a real mixture of items you wouldn't think to use). She was so enthusiastic about her work and engaging others in it. There was a real buzz at the end of her talk and she said herself there were loads of people going to talk to her which was lovely.
| Postcard size pieces machine stitched on her children's outgrown denim clothes. Angela has made these over many years as reminders of family holidays and other events. |
| A sketchbook pages of an apron she used for one of her outdoor projects. |
