1st September meeting

Our speaker on Saturday is Isobel Hall who some people will remember from when she was a member. Isobel is now an internationally known textile artist but does return to her Guisborough roots. Her talk is titled 'Mixed Media and Stitch' At present she has an exhibition at Kirkleatham Museum so plenty of examples  of her work there. She is also running a dayschool for us on 9th September when we will be making 'Books with a Medieval Inspiration" The dayschool isn't quite full if anybody would like to come along.

SATURDAY 11 AUGUST 2018 DAY OF STITCH PART ONE

We all enjoyed a lovely day at Pinchinthorpe Forest and Walkway just outside Guisborough yesterday in the railway carriage.

The theme this year was hearts and there were lots of things to do for all ages.  Colouring for the little ones.  Felt heart shapes to decorate or stitch and glue on to cards, fabric hearts to stitch for older children or adults and we had lots of willing customers during the day as you can see from the photographs.

One youngster didn't want to make a heart, he wanted to make a worm which turned out big enough to be a snake.  He was very pleased with himself.

100 HEARTS 1914 - 1918 6 AUGUST 2018

These are the latest entrants from our branch. We were asked to contribute hearts to commemorate 100 years of the end of World War 1.

Diane J. has brought attention to the women who were quite callously classed as "superfluous" through no fault of their own but to the dreadful loss of life of the men who would have been their husbands.

 Diane J. her second heart is to commemorate peace in 1918.

Linda D.  To commemorate her husband's grandfather Corporal Herbert Cook, M.M. 4th Bn. Yorkshire Regt.  who died on 15th January, 1917.

100 HEARTS 1914 - 1918 7TH JULY 2018

The latest beautiful heart was brought to our branch meeting for members to see by Carole H.  It was quite justifiably very much admired by everyone. 

SATURDAY 7TH JULY 2018 LAURA EDGAR

We had a very interesting afternoon with Laura Edgar as our speaker.
She used mainly recycled fabrics for her gorgeous creations.  These were either donated by work colleagues or bought from charity shops.   What a lovely way to recycle and have something wonderful to hang on your wall.
Laura was very generous in showing us with two pieces that were in the process of being made just how she worked and layered them with absolutely fabulous results.
To finish a very nice afternoon a cup of tea and delicious homemade cakes (thank you Diane).
